FAMILY : CYMOTHOIDAE
Ceratothoa sp - possibly Ceratothoa
imbricata Fabricius 1775
An accurate identification is very difficult as this Genus is in need of taxonomic research and revision.
Isopods of the Family Cymothoidae are parasites
of fish. This 35mm animal was found on the tongue of a
Luderick (Girella
tricuspidata) and is commonly referred to as a "Doctor" by many Luderick
fisherman. The sharp
claws provide a very strong grip.
