SEA SLUGS

AND  OTHER  MARINE  INVERTEBRATES  OF  THE  GOLD COAST SEAWAY,  AUSTRALIA.

Although this is not part of the Tweed-Byron coast, when factors such as big seas or flooding in the river rule out diving in my area, the south wall of the Gold Coast Seaway offers some very interesting snorkelling with many species that are not often seen on the Tweed Coast, a few kilometres to the south. Some examples are shown below.
Unfortunately this area is sometimes plundered by collectors who take all the shrimps, anemones, fish and whatever else they can catch, either for their own aquariums or for the trade. This act is bad enough without the destruction that they do in the process, turning over rocks and destroying the habitat. It may or may not be legal, I don't know the rules for this area, but I do know it is extremely short sighted. It will result in this area being totally degraded. There is already enough fishing tackle on the bottom here to start a shop!
